Benefits for Users Afdrukken

Skippers:

  • are supplied with a route planner (based on navigability as a function of the vessel characteristics),
  • can ask for statistics based estimates of voyage durations,
  • get an initial traffic schedule based on the actual traffic situation when requiring access to the canal,
  • receive adapted traffic schedules whenever the actual situation changes.

The waterway authority:

  • gets an overview of the current traffic, possible bottlenecks and dangerous situations,
  • is continously informed about actual drawbridge and lock situations and the corresponding schedules,
  • can interactively introduce local constraints (that is, force vessels to travel as a group) and require VSZ to calculate the resulting model forecast. This allows the authority officials to take pro-active measures while guiding the traffic.
  • can decide to operate the locks in either minimal water consumption or shortest time mode.
The screendump below shows the planner module GUI as operated upon by the RIS-operators.
  • The upper part shows the distance (vertical) versus time (horizontal) curves for several schedules.
  • The red blocks in the lower part correspond to drawbridge and lock operations.
